It's a BLT Life!

Life, in its most essential form, is not unlike a BLT sandwich. The bacon, possibly the most crucial element of the sandwich, without which the sandwich feels incomplete, and an utter failure, corresponds with the living beings of the Earth. There are red ones (raw bacon), black ones (ovecooked bacon), white ones (those deliciously fatty laces most commonly encountered on the perimeter of the bacon slice). The slices can be fat or slender, thick or thin, long or short.

The lettuce of the BLT corresponds with the vegetative element of our Earth. It represents all that synthesizes its own energy, and is not entirely dependent upon other organisms for its survival (granted, some plants depend on insects for sexual reproduction, but if you really made that point in your head I would tell you to shut up and stop reading this because I'm illustrating a correspondence between a BLT and our planet).

At this juncture, you might be thinking pretty highly of yourself, wondering, "Well, if the lettuce is the vegetation of the planet, then what does the tomato correspond to?" The tomato is all that is valued in our world. It is what is taken and given importance, because of how the tomato plant itself is not appreciated in most cultures and diets. It may correspond with wealth, diamonds, elephant tusks, or fashionable, expensive sunglasses. For whatever reason, the tomato is valued more than the tomato plant itself, much like many things in our world that do not make up a BLT.

Lastly, the bread. I am hoping that most of you are able to draw the conclusion of what is represented by the bread. Yes, that is correct, the bread represents the cohesiveness of our world, and the cultures that live together in it. Without the bread, the bacon (the people), the lettuce (the vegetation), and the tomato (things of value) cannot be appreciated, because of their inabilities to be mixed with each other in the absence of bread. Now, go make yourself a BLT sandwich and think about how representative it is of our world.

My husband came home with a turkey club (as I replay this story I am shaking my head). What did I do? Got rid of the turkey, slapped some mayo on that bad boy and voila - BLT.

Thanks for popping in. I am following your madness too...

    Love being mad together!

  13. All true.

We'd probably live in a better place if everyone in politics was forced to sit down at noon and eat their PB&J with all the other senators, prime ministers and city councilmen.

  20. Thanks for your earlier comment,Keri. I think I am fully back now. Hope your holidays went well. Lots to write about in 2010.Sandwiches have been big items for us lately. Turkey salad,of course. Mixed with a bit of celery. Topped with boston lettuce and orange spiked cranberry sauce and its a classic winner, or weiner...take ur pick....but then it should be served in a top split bun...hold the mustard
