Beware the Fake Sandwich Guru!

California sandwich chain Togo’s Eateries is launching a new promotion entitled "Togo's Pastrami Sandwich vs. the Breadwich". The campaign includes something a little different, a Guarantee! Any guest who doesn't like Togo's Hot Pastrami Sandwich better than the other guys' can get their money back. I wonder if the guarantee stands if you completely finish their sandwich. Togo's chairman and CEO says: "At Togo’s we know our quality is superior to those 'breadwiches' the other guys serve and we are not afraid to put our money where your mouth is." Pretty strong.

But get this, in addition to the introduction of the Pastrami Guarantee the campaign is featuring, of all things a sandwich guru (click here to see him) WELL!!! .............. Exactly WHO is this so-called "sandwich guru" anyway, and what makes him qualified? Hmmprumph! @#$%^&*

The campaign ends in late October which has me wondering if the Pastrami Guarantee ends with it... and what will become of this so-called sandwich guru? Will we be seeing him on the unemployment line come November? How many sandwich guru's does the world need? Is one sandwich guru better than an other? How can you tell if a sandwich guru is even REAL or fake? Does this guy have credentials or is he a guru because his face is flashing across Togo's website? I'm afraid the subject begs more questions than it has answers, and I have every intention of finding them all.

Guinness World Book of Records Sandwich

This story still makes me laugh. Last October more than 1500 cooks tried to earn a place in Guinness' World Book of Records by building the worlds largest sandwich. It took them two days and more than 2,000lbs of meat to build a 5,000-foot-long sandwich! A big event was planned in a park in the capital Tehran. Guinness officials were there to record the ginormous feat, but before anyone could measure the sandwich, spectators rushed the table and the sandwich was gone in a matter of minutes. What kind of sandwich was it you ask? Ostrich. 2,000lbs of it!

The Taco Sandwich (Only in America)

Submitted to Sandwich 365 by:
Ms. Tina Delgado
Redondo Beach, California

This Taco Sandwich is very simple to make, very tasty, and decidedly American!
Here's how to make it:

Ingrédients
1.5 lb ground turkey meat, sauted
1 packet dry taco seasoning (any brand)
1 large jalepeno pepper, half chopped, half sliced into wheel shape
1 large red onion, diced
1/2 head iceberg lettuce, chopped
1/2 cup mayo
1 cup chedder cheese, grated
1/2 cup fresh cilantro
French sandwich roll (or bun of choice) toasted
Assemblée
In a large pan, saute 1/2 red onion until translucide (translucent)
Add 1/2 jalepeno pepper and saute lightly (approx 2 minutes)
Add all turkey meat and dry taco seasoning per directions on packet until done and set aside

In a small blender or "chop-chop" combine 1/2 jalepeno pepper and mayo. This makes "mayopeno" spread

Smooth " Sam's Mayopeno"over both sides of roll/bun
Heap seasoned turkey mixture over bottom bun
Top with cheese, cilantro, remaining chopped onion, jalepeno wheels, and lettuce

Serve Hot!
Bon appétit, Le gourou

A True Sandwich Hero!

Mr. Noel Lighthart of PA loves a good Corned Beef Sandwich, so on a lunch break last December the Father of five visited Pumpernick's Deli in Montgomery PA.

While waiting for his Corned Beef on Rye he noticed a young woman in the back of the deli who was seemingly upset and hovering over her 18-month-old toddler.

Instinctively, Noel rushed to the table. As he came closer, he realized the little girl was choking and all attempts by her Mother to unblock her airways were not working.

Thanks to his training in CPR, Noel offered to help. The women backed away and handed him the baby almost before he could complete his sentence. The baby was turning blue. He cradled the prone girl in one palm, rubbing her back and then gave two firm pushes as a crowd of people watched in horror!
On the second push, a wad of half-chewed chicken nugget popped out. The girl, began to cry and it was like music. She had not made a sound until then.
When she reached for her Mother, he knew the CPR had worked, so he left the deli forgetting all about his sandwich. Noel didn't tell anyone about the incident, but because he was wearing his company uniform, witnessess called and reported his heroic act. Soon after, he was duped into attending what he thought was a safety meeting, where he was presented with a trophy and $1,000.

A few weeks ago, he was honored with the Excellence in Customer Service Award for going above and beyond the call of duty for their large customer base.

Looking back, Lighthart isn't sure what prompted him to stop at Pumpernick's. It was a busy day, traffic was heavy and the restaurant is difficult to get in and out of, he said.
"Something told me to go back there," he said. But Lighthart doesn't want to tempt fate by returning to the deli, no matter how good their corned beef is.
I wonder, did Pumperniks ever get the Corned Beef Sandwich to this Hero?
Let us hope so, oui?

Un portrait de moi ! (A portrait of me)!

Beautiful, Oui?

Grilled Jarlsberg Cheese Sandwich

The story of Jarlsberg is the tale of the cheese that almost wasn't. In the 1830s, Swiss cheese makers came to Norway to show Norwegian dairies how to make their classically nutty, sweet, holed cheeses. The Swiss style cheese became very popular, and was produced in large volume for several years before disappearing from the market altogether.
In the 1950s, scientists at the Agricultural University of Norway became curious about the cheese and attempted to recreate it, releasing Jarlsberg in 1956 and exporting the cheese in 1961. The cheese is named for the county in Norway where it was originally made in the 1830s.

From Sunset magazine
About 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 slices firm white bread
4 to 6 ounces Jarlsberg cheese, thinly sliced
Spread 1 side of bread slices with butter.
Mound cheese on unbuttered side of 2 slices.

Set bread, buttered side up, on cheese.
Place sandwiches in frying pan and cook, covered, on medium-low heat until cheese is soft and bread is browned, about 12 minutes total; turn sandwiches once.
Remove from pan, cut in half diagonally, and serve hot.
voilà

The Pride of Atlanta

From JUST LOAF’N at 313 Boulevard S.E. Atlanta Georgia 404-525-4001

Cajun comes in more than a dozen kinds of po’ boys at this Grant Park eatery, where the bread is the right stuff for stuffings: The restaurant gets it from Leidenheimer’s Bakery in New Orleans. It’s the perfect vessel for messy, deep-fried shrimp dressed with the works: lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo and spicy Creole mustard. Look at this beauty and eat your heart out!
